Using Netscape Communicator
to Create A Web Page

1.  Starting a New or Blank Page
From the Start Button go up to Programs. Go across to the Netscape Communicator Program and select Netscape Composer. If you have a shortcut on your desktop you can start up your Netscape Communicator and from the menu bar choose File...New...Blank Page.

You should be looking at a plain page. Don't be intimidated by the toolbars and icons. There are two toolbars, a composition toolbar and a formatting toolbar.

  2. Adding Text
Choose an alignment from the formatting toolbar and type a title for your page. To move to the next line press the enter key. Remember, if you want to change your alignment you will have to choose it from your formatting toolbar. If you have already typed some text and you need to change the alignment, as in word processing, you must select it (click and drag over it to highlight the selection) before any new changes can be applied. You can continue on adding text to your page or you can try adding an image.

SAVE YOUR WORK
Before you continue on to the next step it would be a good idea to save your work. Go up to File...select the Save As command. Locate where you may want to save your file. Remember* a new folder on the desktop works well. (*See proceeding page.) Important: give your file a short filename. Do not leave any spaces even if you can with Win 95/98 programs. Continue the saving process. A box will appear asking you to give your page a Title. This title will appear in the top left corner of your window. Whether you are on or off-line this Title will appear. Some search engines use this information. Make sure to use good descriptive words in your Title. Titles can be edited at a later time by choosing Format...Page Colors and Properties...General.
