Thanksgiving Theme Resources

  • MCAS Question Search

    Use this tool to generate a custom set of MCAS released items. The question database currently contains  released items administered on MCAS tests from 1998 - 2006. You can narrow your search by year, grade, and by Subject Area/Question Category (i.e Science and Technology/Engineering-Life Science). Under "Advanced Search" you can narrow your search to specific standards and question types such as multiple Choice, open response, short answer, or writing prompt.

  • NCS Mentor for MCAS

Use this tool to learn how to score student responses to MCAS open-response questions and composition writing prompts.

John Gomes of the Computer Services Department has been arranging after-school sessions on MassLearns with building principals. MassLearns is an online subscription service that provides links to quality Web sites that are organized by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. NBPS has this subscription through August 2008.     Provides teachers with free tools to create online lessons, online quizzes, and very easy to make rubrics.

    Some Examples:

    • RubiStar - Create rubrics with this easy to use online tool.

    • WebPoster Wizard - Create student projects, online lessons, or class pages with this tool.

    • PersuadeStar - Designed to help students in grades 5-12 write an online persuasive essay.

  • Thinkfinity (Formerly Marco Polo)

    This free, comprehensive digital learning platform is built upon the merger of Verizon MarcoPolo and the Thinkfinity Literacy Network. Thinkfinity contains more than 55,000 authoritative educational and literacy resources including standards-based K-12 lesson plans, student materials, interactive tools and web sites. There is also a professional development component to prepares educators in incorporating Thinkfinity's resources into their instructional settings. 

  • New York Times Lesson Plan Archive (Grades 6-12)

The Lesson Plan Archive is provided by the New York Times and offers hundreds of free lesson plans. This archive can be searched using a keyword or by browsing a subject.

Education World, the Educator's Complete Resource Guide to the Internet, offers education professionals, parents, students, and administrators a place where they can start each day to find the lesson plans and research materials they are looking for. This site is updated daily with fresh new lesson plans and curriculum ideas, articles on issues that are of interest to educators, parents, and students, and much more.

A resource provided by the Massachusetts Department of Education. The "Promising Practices" section provides examples from school systems across the Commonwealth that are using technology to support teaching and learning.

Educational links organized by Subject and Grade Level. Also provides links to information on other resources such as SmartBoards, WebQuests, Virtual Field Trips, Differentiated Instruction, Clipart, and Teacher Tools.

  • Doing What Works - (DWW) is a website sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. DWW is dedicated to helping educators identify and make use of effective teaching practices.

  • What Works Clearinghouse -Provides educators, policymakers, researchers, and the public with a central and trusted source of scientific evidence of what works in education.

  • TeachersFirst - Membership is free. Classroom resources and lesson plans for K-12 teachers. Materials are reviewed by teachers and sorted by subject area and grade level. If you are a techie at heart, check out the TF Edge. This page showcases cool new tools that have potential for the classroom. 

  • PBS TeacherSource -Provides high-quality preK-12 educational resources. There are thousands of lesson plans, teaching activities, on-demand video assets, and interactive games and simulations.

  • Busy Teacher's Cafe - A K-6 teacher resource that offers free worksheets, lesson plans, activities, and suggestions for classroom management. The site's creator is a Literacy Coach from New Jersey, so make sure to check out the Literacy Center!

  • The Annenberg Channel 's Interactives - Great online interactive resources for grades 2-12. A majority of these resources are at the secondary level. Subjects: ELA, Math, Science, and History/Social Studies.

  • The WebQuest Page - What is a WebQuest? A WebQuest is an inquiry-based activity in which some or all of the information comes from the Web. This page is from the original creator of WebQuests. The site provides training materials and examples that can be searched by specific grade level and curriculum area.

The Department of Education's MassONE is the Commonwealth's set of web-based tools for communication,    collaboration, and curriculum planning, which are designed to support PreK-12 standards-based teaching and learning.

Connected Calendar (Classroom Connect)

An interactive calendar that provides daily links to enriching Web content on cross-curricular topics. Questions are provided with the topic along with web sites to help find the answers. Can be used to reinforce research and reading comprehension skills.  (Grades 4+)
