This modern-day tale of Charity Hope Valintine is a great challenge in it's music and dance for all groups. Filled with some of the best songs to come from Broadway. Sweet Charity fills an evening with laughter, touching characterization, and truly memorable classic Broadway dancing.
Based on the film The Nights of Cabiria by the Italian genius Frederico Fellini, Sweet Charity is the tale of a desparate-to-be-truly-loved dance hall hostess at the Fandango Ballroom who seeks a life of happiness and romance with the man of her dreams. Her failures are equally hillarious and poignant as she struggles to overcome her station in life and the friends who put her dreams of happiness down.
Some of the great moments are "Hey, Big Spender" sung by the girls of the Fandango Ballroom, "If My Friends Could See Me Now" by Charity in an Italian movie star's hotel suite, "There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This" by Charity and her best friends Nikki and Helene, "The Rhythm of Life" by Daddy Brubeck and the entire cast, "I'm a Brass Band" by Charity and the men's marching band ensemble, "I Love to Cry at Weddings" by Herman (the Fandango Ballroom manager) and the entire cast, and "Where am I Going?" by Charity.
This production will have some of the most exciting choreography ever invented for the stage based upon the work of the legendary Bob Fosse. In a scene in the Pompeii Club (a posh and sophisticated dance club) the entire dancing ensemble wows the audience with three consecutive dances - "The Rich Man's Frug", "The Prizefighter", and "The Big Finish" - a great deal of fun for all involved.
Auditions will be held Tuesday and Thursday, December 3 & 5. Scripts and music will be available after the production of Rumors.
