The
digestive system helps the body to generate energy from the consumed food
and uses the energy produced to power the body.Three
of the senses (taste, sight, smell) aid in the consumption of food. The
teeth, aided by the jaw, grind food into small enough pieces for it to
pass into the stomach. The stomach, the main organ of the pig’s digestive
system, serves as a food mixer and acid and enzyme bath. It squeezes food
until it is transformed into a semi-liquid called chyme. From
there, it travels to the small intestines, where chemical digestion continues
and most of the nutrients are absorbed. The large intestines forms what
is left of the chyme into brownish, semisolid masses ready for removal
from the body.
