Smooth Sailing into Kindergarten

The Smooth Sailing into Kindergarten calendars for the current school year have been distributed throughout the preschool/daycare centers in the city of New Bedford. Children who will be five years old by September 10, 2012 should have received a calendar. Please ask your child’s preschool teacher for a calendar if you have not yet received one. If your child does not attend a preschool program you may obtain a calendar by contacting either of the following:

The kindergarten transition program for the New Bedford Public Schools is currently in its fourth year. If you are new to the program it is called;
“Smooth Sailing into Kindergarten”
This program is a collaboration between P.A.C.E., Inc. Child Care Works and the New Bedford Public Schools. It is funded through grants from the Department of Early Education and Care and the Massachusetts Department for Elementary and Secondary Education.

Children enrolled in preschools throughout New Bedford who will be 5 years old by September 10, have been issued a thirteen month calendar covering September 2011 through September 2012.

The calendar offers parents activities to engage in throughout the many rooms of their homes as well as, fun community activities to help prepare their little sailors for their first day of kindergarten in September 2012.

A book list is listed each month so that parents may read monthly theme related stories with their children and the books are available to parents throughout our city libraries. “Smooth Sailing into Kindergarten updates are sent home throughout the school year. These updates include additional activities and information to keep parents informed of happenings.
