Our city is blessed with diversity of culture that enriches all who live here, work here and visit here. The creativity and labor of our residents fueled our rise as a whaling center, a textile center, a commercial fishing center and soon a marine science and technology center.

This $8.4 Million, 30,000 square foot facility represents the largest investment of municipal funds in a single educational facility in over thirty years. It's an investment that has been eight years in the making, although this building was constructed in nine short months. It's an investment that validates and elevates the hard work, sweat and tears of the SeaLab staff over the years since SeaLab was founded in 1968. It's an investment that will allow our children to study marine science from kindergarten through postgraduate work in a coordinated and seamless program that is the only one of its kind in the United States. And it's an investment that's founded firmly in reality yet allows us to unlock the mysteries of the sea and horizon of opportunities that lay before our children.
