Community Involvement

• Provide community with seminars on timely marine studies, such as: "Red Tide", "Oil Pollution", “Seismology”

• Provide community with a visiting lecturers program; scientists from U MASS, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston College, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

• Provide community with Beach Walk for identification of flora and fauna, and a “Rock Hound” Walk investigating the geology of East Beach

• Provide community with Seismology Data Gathering, Information and Dissemination – with real time monitoring of global earthquakes

• Provide community with hands-on, inquiry based science lessons

• Offer Environmental Awareness courses to community

• Provide a site for Science Fair activities

• Provide community with a Meteorological Center for weather data gathering and information center – GLOBE Center

• Provide partnerships with area businesses and biotechnology firms to further the study of marine science

• Provide model lessons in conjunction with area agencies, such as: EPA, Oceans Academy and the Massachusetts Marine Educators

• Provide a forum/site for discussion of timely marine subjects with area businesses/agencies/visiting dignitaries

• Provide a “Hands On” Science Day for grade five students

• Provide tours of the Sea Lab facility
