1. additional elementary teachers will be hired to reduce class sizes to an average of 24, (budget permitting) |

2. 100% of the secondary special education teachers, grades 9-12, will become highly qualified over the next three years. |

3. 100% of the secondary math teachers, grades 6-12, will become highly qualified over the next three years. |

Improvement Objectives : |
|
1. All elementary classrooms will have a student population of twenty- four after hiring additional elementary classroom teachers, (budget permitting). 2. Secondary Special Education teachers who are not licensed will obtain licensure and will demonstrate subject matter competency through an approved college program or a district-based licensure program. 3. Secondary mathematics teachers who are not licensed will obtain licensure and will demonstrate subject matter competency through an approved college program or a district-based licensure program. 4. All novice teachers will participate in a district orientation program and be assigned a mentor. 5. Veteran teachers and administrators may elect to receive training to mentor novice teachers regarding content knowledge and understanding to lead to increased student achievement. 6. All teachers will be invited to participate in sustained leadership opportunities to become better and more knowledgeable in implementing education reform to impact student achievement. 7. All middle school teachers will receive training and support in the implementation of the middle school model including team teaching, and differentiating instruction. |

The district has developed a campaign to reduce elementary class sizes to 24 students and to insure that all students are taught by highly qualified teachers. One strategy to accomplish this is to see that secondary teachers in Special Education and Mathematics become licensed. Additionally, programs are being implemented to insure that all teachers receive professional development of high quality particularly in the areas of ELA and Mathematics. New staff will receive the guidance and needed support through an orientation and mentoring program, and the middle school teachers will receive training to insure that the middle school philosophy and model are fully embraced.

Improvement Objectives : |

1. All teachers will receive guidance around HQ PD so they can align goals with quality offerings. 2. All teachers are invited to participate in the design and development of data driven (student achievement data, etc.) sustained, ongoing professional development that enable them to become better and more knowledgeable teachers in their content areas. 3. District and school administrators and PD professionals will use student achievement data, teacher evaluation and classroom observation data and teacher survey information to determine what PD opportunities/activities will be sponsored and supported by the district. 4. School administrators and district school personnel will acquire the knowledge and skills required for effective planning, implementation, and evaluation of the strategies that will be employed to lessen the gaps in identified areas in mathematics and ELA scores in grades K-12.

The district has committed to developing policies and procedures to insure that all professional development offerings are on-going and sustained. The number of professional development opportunities that are highly qualified will increase yearly. A major focus of professional development is in the areas of ELA and mathematics K-12. PD will be designed to enhance knowledge and skills and prepare teachers and administrators to develop program strategies to improve student’s learning in grades K-12. |

1. All instructional paraprofessionals will receive guidance around the requirements of becoming highly qualified. 2. Instructional paraprofessionals will be invited to participate in coursework to meet the criteria of highly qualified. 3. The district in partnership with an institute of higher learning will develop a local assessment tool to evaluate instructional paraprofessionals for highly qualified status.
